our mission and vision

Our Mission at Messiah is to spread the contagious joy of following Jesus Christ.

Our Vision is to be a community of contagious joy.

Our Motto is "Serving God by Serving Others."

Why Joy?

Joy is different than happiness. Happiness you pursue, and it never is quite complete. That’s why you can’t always be happy— you have to constantly pursue it.

D. L Moody, the great evangelist, once said, “I think there is a difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is caused by things which happen around me, and circumstances will mar it, but joy flows right on through trouble; joy flows on through the dark; joy flows in the night as well as in the day; joy flows all through persecution and opposition; it flows right along, for it is an unceasing fountain bubbling up in the heart; a secret spring which the world can't see and don't know anything about; but the Lord gives His people perpetual joy when they walk in obedience to Him."

I’m happy because of something that happens to me, but joy does not happen- joy comes from abiding in something other than me. Joy comes from the very thing that is the source of me. Joy comes from abiding in Christ and allowing Christ to abide in me; and because of that my joy can be complete.

Our mission and vision is rooted in John 15 where Jesus tells his disciples, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit…I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” Read all of John 15.

This joy is complete because there is nothing else we need - everything that sustains, feeds, shelters and strengthens, God provides.

This joy is complete because it holds me when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, because it is what I live on in the desert and wilderness places of my life; it is the well from which I drink and I will never thirst again.

Someone once shared, “Joy is the flag that flies over the castle of our hearts announcing that the king is in residence today.” [Walter B. Knight, Knight’s Master Book of New Illustrations] Our joy is contagious because the King, Jesus Christ, abides in us and we abide in him.
