about messiah

our story

In the early 1960's, the West Springfield community was growing rapidly. The Virginia Annual Conference assigned Messiah's first pastor, Rev. Robert T. Knox, in June 1964 to plant a church in this growing area. By December 1964, 80 persons celebrated Charter Sunday. Since then, our building and congregation has continued to grow!

Messiah continues to be sustained by our vision “to become a community of contagious joy.” As we worship, grow, serve, give, and share with each other, we pray that we may be faithful to fulfilling God’s vision by sharing abundant joy with each other, the community, and the world.

Today at Messiah, we are grateful for our past, we are passionate about our future, and we joyfully invite you to be a part of our next 50 years!
