Messiah United Methodist Church in Springfield, Virginia, is seeking an experienced individual who will serve as its Finance Director. This is a full-time position with benefits. Though some flexibility can be accommodated, primary working hours will be on the church campus during core business hours each day.
The candidate must have the experience and knowledge to effectively manage the income and disbursements of this large, vibrant church. The position requires an ample understanding of applicable laws and regulations and General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Finance Director will be required to ensure audit compliant processes are maintained and employed.
A degree in accounting, finance, or business management is preferred. The candidate should also have at least four years of experience that clearly demonstrates the ability to manage and administer payroll and an employee benefits program. Experience in building budgets and MS Excel are a must and proficiency with the accounting software is highly desired.
The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills as the Finance Director will deal with multiple stakeholders within the congregation and staff, working with and at the direction of the Church Treasurer, Finance Committee and Senior Pastor. The Finance Director will be the principal liaison with its auditor.

PART-TIME FACILITIES MANAGER: Messiah UMC welcomes letters of interest for a part-time position to provide oversight for facilities management. The position entails engaging vendors to provide services for church preventive and corrective maintenance as well as improvements to the church campus directed by the Board of Trustees. The responsibilities include the organization and management of files and contracts. The position will not exceed 20 hours per week and the expectation is that it will eventually only require on average about 10 hours per week. The position will be compensated at an hourly rate. There will be flexibility in terms of times of work and there can be accommodations for extended periods of time off. It is an ideal position for someone retired and wanting to serve in this way.
