Parenting Podcast Small Group
June 22 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until July 20, 2021
Are you a parent who cares about the social, emotional, and spiritual development of your children (toddler to teenager)?
Would you like to connect with other parents going through similar things?
Would you like to be a part of building the community of engaged families at Messiah?
If you answered yes to any of these we hope you will consider joining a short term parenting group using the podcast “Raising Boys and Girls” Season 1 which is based on the book “Are my Kids on Track? The 12 Emotional, Social, and Spiritual Milestones Your Child Needs to Reach” by Sissy Goff, David Thomas, and Melissa Trevathan.
The structure of the meetings will be to meet for roughly an hour over zoom. We will listen to the podcast episode that corresponds with the chapter we are covering (roughly 25 minutes long) with some stop and starts along the way to discuss what the authors are sharing and how that applies to our individual kiddos. If you have the time to read the chapter before the meeting, wonderful, it is worth it. If you don’t that is okay too and you can still get A LOT from listening to the podcast (where the authors summarize the chapter) and participating in the discussion.
Our first meeting will be on June 1st at 7:30, and we will meet for the next four Tuesdays while we cover the SOCIAL development of children. Then, we will likely have a short break before picking back up with four weeks of EMOTIONAL development; then we will conclude with a separate four week session on SPIRITUAL development.
The idea is to keep the group small enough that we can really get to know one another and can be a supportive group for each other as we navigate the realities of parenting!!! So, if you are interested in joining us, please SIGN UP here.
Here is a blurb about the book so you know what content you are getting into:
“From birth to adulthood, our children’s physical and intellectual development is carefully tracked and charted. But what about their hearts? After all, how our children develop emotionally, socially, and spiritually will determine who they become as husbands and wives, fathers and mothers, friends and co-workers. Are My Kids on Track? helps you identify and measure 12 key emotional, social, and spiritual milestones in your children’s lives. Moreover, you will discover practical ways to guide your kids through any stumbling blocks they might encounter and help them reach the appropriate landmarks. Along the way the authors pinpoint the different ways boys and girls develop, so you can help your child flourish in his or her own way. Filled with decades of experience from three practicing counselors, speakers, and writers, this book provides you with valuable, current research and user-friendly, hands-on practices to make supporting your kids’ soul development a seamless part of family life. Don’t just raise smart kids–raise courageous, compassionate, resilient, empathetic, and smart kids.”—Good Reads
